Just load and run the file 'gifvert' to get started. It will automatically load the machine language portion, 'gifvert.mc'. It will then prompt you for a compressed KoalaPaint filename (compressed Koalas begin with 'gg'). Entering the 'gg' prefix is not required. After you have given it the device # to load from, it will load and decompress the file into memory. GIFVERT will next prompt you for the output GIF filename; the use of a '.gif' suffix (filename.gif) is recommended. The output device # will be requested, and you will also be given the choice of blanking the screen. Blanking the screen will result in a much faster encoding time (2 MHz mode is used on a 128). If you attempt to display the GIFs generated by GIFVERT with some of the popular decoders available for the C-64, the results will probably be half as wide as you would expect. Don't be alarmed, this is normal. Most of the decoders treat the multicolor screen as 320x200 even though its actual resolution is 160x200. GIFVERT encodes the multicolor screen as its acutal resolution. This is more logical, results in smaller files, and, more importantly, is faster. I hope eve5yone is pleased with the speed; I did some MAJOR optimizing to get it this fast. Randy Weems 2200 Centerpoint RD Cumberland Furnace, TN 37051
